Location

There are a number of ways to travel around Chiang Mai. Regardless of the mode of transport, the fare from the airport to the city centre is THB 100 to 200.

Public, air-conditioned taxis are stationed at the airport, railway station and near many hotels but not so easily hailed in the city.

Songthaew (Rod-Daeng or Red Taxi) is the most common and preferred mode of local transportation in Chiang Mai. Wave one down the street (or approach a waiting driver) and tell the driver where you want to go. The fare is by person.

Mobile ride-hailing app ‘GRAB’ is a convenient way to travel around Chiang Mai.

Thailand’s iconic tuk-tuks are quick, noisy and, depending on your bargaining skills, inexpensive. Rate starts at 60 baht for a short journey. We recommend you agree on the fare before you board.
